My inspiration to become a teacher came from what my life has revolved around so far, which is sports. Working in a team environment has shown me the importance of creating a strong identity for myself, and building character through each experience that I go through. I’ve realized in the early part of my life that the impact that people have had on me has made me want to make a difference in the life of others. The coaches that I’ve had in the past made such a positive impact on me as a kid, that I want to do the same for other kids by showing them how they can be the best version of themselves that they can be. I also want to emphasize to my learners the importance of individuality. I’ve always been a standout in a group of people because of my ethnic background, but I stood out even more because of the lack of Jamaican hockey players in Saskatchewan. I want to show others that being someone who takes the path less travelled is inspiring, builds confidence and it shows others that may not be confident enough to follow their dreams that they can do whatever they put their mind to.
